Can microneedling be done during summer?
Have you ever heard of microneedling? If you are looking for a non-invasive treatment that works on rejuvenation and many imperfections, this is the treatment for you! In this article you’ll find out why microneedling is one of the most sought-after treatments of the moment. Find out also why microneedling sessions are possible in summer!
Microneedling is a facial rejuvenation technique that, through perfectly controlled microtrauma, is able to stimulate the production of collagen and elastin. Precisely because this stimulation takes place through micro-needles that cause a skin lesion, it is questionable whether this treatment should be carried out in summer.
What is microneedling?
The natural decrease in the production of collagen and elastin in the skin is the first consequence of skin ageing. After the age of 25, our body slows down the production of these two proteins, causing a gradual sagging of tissues, loss of tone, and a progressive increase in wrinkles.
Find out all the facts about collagen and how to counteract its reduction!
These natural processes are also stimulated by external factors such as exposure to UVA and UVB rays, bad lifestyle habits such as an unhealthy diet, smoking, and poor sleep quality.
So how can collagen loss be counteracted?
Microneedling and collagen production
Although collagen loss is an entirely natural process, it is possible to counteract it by reducing all the damage and blemishes that result.
Microneedling is positioned as the most effective and least invasive treatment for counteracting collagen loss. It is therefore the most suitable to combact the signs of skin ageing.
Thanks to a single microneedling session, in fact, it is possible to increase collagen production by up to 400%, immediately resulting in firmer, firmer and more radiant skin.
Performing microneedling sessions regularly is a great way to slow down all the processes of skin ageing. Moreover, it will act on the elasticity of the skin, resulting in an improved texture.
Can you do microneedling in the summer?
The answer to this question has always attracted conflicting opinions, with experts dividing between those who maintain that you must avoid it at all costs and those who recommend it.
The reasons why a microneedling treatment is not usually recommended in summer can be linked to several factors. First and foremost the possibility of staining the skin due to the intensity of the sun’s rays and the increased exposure of the skin to the sun.
In reality, however, microneedling treatments can also be used in the summer. Important is to follow dedicated protocols that not only pose no risk to the skin, but also become a real support for the skin.
How to take care of skin during summer with microneedling
Summer is a time of great stress for the skin. Continuous sun exposure and heat often become synonymous with various skin imperfections.
What happens to the skin in summer?
- Skin thickening
- Deterioration in the quality of texture homogeneity
- Dehydration
- Increased production of melanin with the consequent risk of the appearance of sun spots
- Increase in wrinkles and fine lines
- Loss of tone and elasticity
- Loss of radiance
- Worsening of inflammation
Microneedling proves to be a solution for treating all these problems even during the summer season.
Thanks to a perfectly controlled microtrauma, we can stimulate cell regeneration in depth. Secondly, we will increase collagen and elastin production, essentially by providing deep hydration with a consequent improvement in radiance, but also in elasticity and tone.
Microneedling can also act on fine lines and signs of ageing, as well as on sunspots, even in a preventive form. It proves to be an excellent ally for treating inflammations and ensuring smooth, compact and super glowy skin!
Is microneedling safe during summer? Necessary precautions to take
The doctor will choose the protocol and, after appropriate evaluations, will advise the patient on the best treatment. He will perform it according to the starting situation, the desired goals and daily habits.
Generally speaking, however, we can say that we usually do not recommend during summer period to combine the needling treatment with deep and strongly exfoliating peelings. In fact we suggest to combine moisturising and non-aggressive active ingredients.
It is also important to carefully regulate the depth of work, preferring a more superficial work. This is however absolutely suitable to promote cell turnover. We will reserve the use of more incisive protocols for the winter months.
We at Campomats have created a specific protocol to prepare the skin for summer with microneedling, find out more about this revolutionary treatment!
Performing microneedling sessions in the summer can, among other things, improve the tan in terms of quality and durability.
Microneedling during summer: what to do after treatment
Although it is an excellent treatment that you can also carry out during summer months, it is good to know some little rules to follow after a microneedling session.
After a treatment, the skin may result red and in the first few days after treatment. There may also be a small, momentary worsening of skin conditions and inflammation, if present.
These minor discomforts are absolutely temporary and resolve within a few days, ensuring an immediate return to social life.
What to do after a microneedling treatment?
After a microneedling treatment it is advisable to follow a few simple rules. This in order to attenuate the very first redness, prevent collateral damage such as spots and hyperpigmentation, but also to optimise the results in terms of duration and effectiveness.
Adequate post-treatment home care, in fact, is a real boost that can amplify the benefits of microneedling. Likewise, it is a good idea to avoid certain behaviours in the days immediately following the treatment, which could interphere with the result.
What not to do after a microneedling treatment?
It is good to pay close attention to what not to do in the days immediately following a microneedling treatment. The rules to follow are really simple and undemanding, but really important for an optimisation of the final result and its longevity.
- Avoid make-up for at least 24/48 hours
- Avoid exfoliating products
- Prefer gentle cleansing
- Do not expose yourself directly to the sun for at least 15 days after treatment and always wear sunscreen, preferably mineral.
- Avoid saunas, Turkish baths and intense physical activity in the 24 hours immediately following the treatment.
Microneedling, by working on skin stimulation even at significant depth levels, makes the skin more sensitive and highly inclined to absorb the substances with which it comes into contact.
This is why it is a good idea to avoid make-up and products that could obstruct the skin’s respiration. Avoid also exfoliants that would be excessively aggressive on a sensitive skin.
Instead, it is good to keep the skin highly moisturised, to prefer natural products that strengthen the barrier. Continue to protect your skin daily, even when not exposed directly to the sun, with a spf suncream, preferably mineral-based.
